Blogpost #7
One of the EOTO presentations that I found interesting was the one about the Instant Telegram, or what would soon be called, Instagram. What I found most interesting about Instagram, was that it was created by someone with almost no knowledge in computer science, aside from basic coding, which really just goes to show how anyone with an idea and basic information can create astoundingly successful things.
What made the presentation about Instagram interesting to me, was the aspect that despite it being a simple site to post images and comment on, it has a huge effect on the social life of people who use it, both positive and negative. Like for example, it can give a person positive feedback from friends or online followers. But, obviously, it comes with internet trolls, the chance to accidently leak private information, and a negative mindset that impacts one's self-esteem when they don't get enough likes on a post. This presentation fits well into my view of most social media platforms. While they can link different parts of the world together and bring people closer no matter the distance, it still has negative effects on people's social lives away from the app.
